Wireless - Access Points

An access point is a device that creates a wireless local area network, or WLAN, usually in an office or large building. An access point connects to a wired router, switch, or hub via an Ethernet cable, and projects a Wi-Fi signal to a designated area.

If you want build more reliable wireless network, you may need a wireless access point. If you just want wireless network at home to cover only several people, the wireless router is enough.

On the net, no one says access point will decrease the bandwidth but people say a repeater will decrease the bandwidth.

UBNT UniFi is an ecosystem of wireless access points, routers, switches, security cameras, controller devices, VoIP phones and access control products. It exists between businesses and cheap home network equipment. Using a typical UniFi network, you can select the required components and several of them.

An access point should be set up with a static IP in the main router's subnet but outside of it's DHCP range.
